Societies

Think Week 2012 is a joint venture between the following societies:

Oxford Atheists, Secularists and Humanists

Oxford Atheists, Secularists and Humanists (OxASH) is a student society which aims to promote understanding and debate about Atheism, Secularism and Humanism in the University of Oxford and the wider Oxford community. We recognise that these are separate ideas and traditions, and hold events on all three themes. We seek to create an open, questioning arena in which people can discuss issues whether it is philosophical, political, social or ethical. OxASH is open to everyone, regardless of their personal religious beliefs.

Brookes Atheists, Secularists and Humanists

Brookes Atheist, Secularists and Humanists (BASH) is a student society set up and run by Annie Webster at Oxford Brookes University. The society hosts events based around discussion of Atheism, Humanism and Secularism, and shares some events with the Brookes Philosophy Society (BPS), which is also run by Annie Webster.

Oxford Humanists

Oxford Humanists work to promote Humanism in our area, to enable Humanists to meet together and to act as the local representative body of the Humanist / Secularist movements. We hold public meetings most months, with an outside speaker. We also meet, one Sunday every month, for more informal discussions at members' houses. Our Children in Need Lunch is an annual event and raises a good 3-figure sum for the BBC's appeal. We are active in keeping Humanist issues to the fore, for example by having representatives on Oxfordshire's SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education). We regularly take our stand into Cornmarket and get a good response from the Saturday shoppers. We also take it to local events such as the Cowley Road Carnival, the Burford Levellers, and the pre-Winter-Solstice Green Fair, and support the Accord Coalition's work on opposing faith schools. Membership is open to all who share our aims.

Sea of Faith, Oxford

The Sea of Faith Network's mission is to explore and promote religious faith as a human creation. The Network has no creed and welcomes people from all faith and non-faith traditions. We meet at the Friends Meeting House, 43 St Giles, Oxford about once in 2 months.

Additionally, Think Week 2012 is supported by our Sponsor: The Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science (UK).
